Buying a Mitsubishi Triton in 2021 - Simon Lucas Mitsubishi

31 August 2021

The landscape for UTE ownership has been put to the test over the last year. Between the government shaking up tax and regulations concerning UTEs and a worldwide pandemic putting a strain on the supply chain, Kiwis have been in a hurry to secure their favourite utility vehicle.

The Mitsubishi range has been a popular choice among New Zealanders with the 2021 Mitsubishi Triton being no exception. The 2021 Mitsubishi Triton broke into the New Zealand market with full force, providing ute lovers with one of the most solid Mitsubishi 4WD vehicles yet. Living up to its “work hard, play hard” tag line, the 2021 Mitsubishi Triton was adopted by New Zealanders quickly. Its versatility between a daily runner and an absolute workhorse that was easy both on the eyes and wallet earned its spot in garages and worksites across the country.

The verdict is in, Mitsubishi has itself a winner with the 2021 Mitsubishi Triton. But there is a caveat to the widespread success of the latest in the Triton family - it is currently sold out nationwide.

But all is not lost for those who hesitated in picking up the 2021 Mitsubishi Triton, however, the window for taking full advantage of the price is closing fast. This month, September 2021, Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand has secured the delivery of around 1000 units of 2021 Mitsubishi Triton utes and Simon Lucas Mitsubishi has a decent share of this coming lot. Customers that missed their initial opportunity to secure their Triton ute have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on one, and this limited run of stock is likely not to be available for long. Many will be preordered or are expected to leave our lot as quickly as they arrived. To see the range of 2021 Mitsubishi Triton models available, head to the Simon Lucas Mitsubishi website and secure one while you still have the chance.

While there will be additional runs of the 2021 Mitsubishi Triton in the future, this may be the last one that gives you the most bang for your buck. With the government penalising the purchase of utes as part of the new clean car discount package, this run of 2021 Mitsubishi Tritons will be the lowest price point you're likely to ever see again.

So what exactly is the penalty, and how does it affect buying a ute in 2021? New Zealand’s government is putting in place a clean car discount package in an attempt to lower the country's CO2 emissions rates. The government's push for electric, hybrid, and low emission vehicles comes at the cost of a penalty of up to $4080 when purchasing a new 2021 Mitsubishi Triton ($3800 for a Triton 2WD and $4080 for a Triton 4WD). The rules relate to the first New Zealand registration of a vehicle and are applied to both new and secondhand vehicles. The rule will be put into place starting January 2022. If a ute is purchased prior to this, customers can avoid this inevitable price increase, with the penalty expected to increase even further in 2023.

So don’t be left holding the bag if you’ve been considering purchasing a 2021 Mitsubishi Triton. This is the last run before 2022 that will not be affected by this penalty. Simon Lucas Mitsubishi has an extremely limited number available so time is ticking.
