The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV is here

24 May 2021

The conversation surrounding electric vehicles in New Zealand continues to heat up. We are seeing more discussions focused around scaling up our country's infrastructure to support electric vehicles, whispers about reducing petroleum vehicle imports over the next decade, and hints towards additional incentives for Kiwis to adopt greener automobile options. It seems that there is very little doubt that electric vehicles are going to play a major role in New Zealand's future.

While Aotearoa and the rest of the world are moving through this transitional phase and beginning to embrace electric vehicles, Mitsubishi has been ahead of the curve in providing customers with electric vehicles that seamlessly integrate into their lives. We recently saw the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV lead a successful charge, taking the SUV market by storm with its impressive range of features combined with all the conveniences of a plug-in hybrid. All this while never compromising any aspect that has built such a loyal customer base for the Outlander brand. A vehicle designed to work hard and play hard.

Mitsubishi’s next offering in the electric vehicle market is one that has been waited for with baited breath, and it’s finally here. Introducing the all new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, The Best of Both Worlds

The all new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle) is the latest spin on Mitsubishi’s popular compact SUV Eclipse Cross range. Everything drivers have come to expect from the Eclipse Cross range is here. Designed to cater for the modern lifestyle while still providing that punchy “off the line” acceleration that makes the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross a pleasure to drive… all tied together in one fuel efficient, eco friendly vehicle that never compromises on performance.

Tried and Tested Technology under the Hood

The technology that drives the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV are the same two electric motors found in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It has already proven itself as being reliable in the success of the Outlander PHEV, but packs an even bigger punch when put into the smaller Eclipse Cross body. These two motors have a combined output of 130kW and are powered by a high capacity 13.8kWh lithium ion-battery and supported by a 94kW/199Nm 2.4L engine.

A big differentiator between the Eclipse Cross and other PHEVs is the fact that it is EV based rather than engine based, which unlike its contemporaries places a motor on each axle for a smooth, quiet driving experience with quiet acceleration, no shift lock, and a 75% reduction in CO2 emission.

Range Anxiety is a Thing of the Past

The technology behind the Eclipse Cross PHEV is complemented by its three different drive modes that ensure maximum efficiency. Switching seamlessly between EV DRIVE mode (full electric, no use of the combustion engine), Series Hybrid Mode (the combustion engine is only used to generate power for the battery) and Parallel Hybrid Mode (the electric motors and combustion engine are used in tandem).

The result? A vehicle that can act as a cost efficient daily runner or take you on an adventure. In full EV mode, the Eclipse Cross has an EV range of up to 55km (the average Kiwi travels 25km on average a day) and a combined range of 660km. All this with a 1.9L per 100km fuel economy. Range anxiety really is a thing of the past.

Fast Charging to get you Back on the Road in Minimal Time

Charging the Eclipse Cross PHEV’s high capacity lithium ion battery is fast and convenient. Either plug it into a standard plug at home to allow it to charge overnight (approximately 6-7 hours for a complete charge), or take advantage of a 0-80% 25 minute fast charge via a Type 2 AC Port with locking function.

Next Generation EV Technology Deserves Next Generation Safety Features
